| Everybody
Helps, Everybody Wins on Big Sunday
On Sunday,
May 15, over 30 Big Sunday volunteers enabled Rebuilding Together
to take major steps in its continuing efforts to renovate a home
on Gardner Avenue in Pasadena. Big Sunday organizers brought together
volunteers from different socio-economic, racial, and religious
backgrounds for 133 community service projects to improve Los Angeles
neighborhoods.

House Captains David Battany and Jennifer Nichols led volunteers
in painting the exterior of the two-story home, cleaning out bathrooms,
removing debris from inside and outside, as well as repairing shingles
and siding. The work site is a long-term project for RT Pasadena
and the scope and amount of work required to renovate the home requires
a heroic effort. In a joint effort with the City of Pasadena to
affect repairs, Rebuilding Together’s goal is to make the
house safe, warm, and dry so the Preiditis siblings can move out
of assisted living and back into their home. The current condition
of the home makes the work site the most ambitious remodeling project
that RT Pasadena has ever taken on but accomplishing that goal will
have far-reaching effects in the community.
Big Sunday is a joint project of Temple Israel of Hollywood with
Community Advocates, Inc., organizing volunteers in non-denominational,
non-political service projects across Los Angeles. RT Pasadena sends
a BIG THANK YOU for the steadfast commitment of House Captains Battany
and Nichols, the volunteers, and Big Sunday organizers.
The 2006
Big Sunday will be on Sunday, May 7. If you are interested in volunteering
for a Rebuilding Together project that day, please send us an email
to rtpasadena@yahoo.com.
